Radio Rain Gauge Reporting Network

Handar rain gauge

The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati owns and maintains a network of radio reporting rain gauges that covers all of Hamilton County. The network of gauges report to a centrally located base station in real time. Radar rainfall is the second component utilized by MSDGC in order to achieve a high level of data quality. Radar rainfall addresses the spatial variation in the precipitation that is not otherwise captured by the radio reporting network. This calibrated data is used by the District in many different ways. One example is MSD engineers/modelers using the data to help calibrate and validate models used to size new sewer and sewer replacement projects. The calibrated data can also be viewed in real time by clicking here.

The Rain Gauge/Radar Rainfall data and reports are managed by MSD's Project & Business Development Division.

Radar Rainfall data and reports are obtained by MSDGC through Vieux, Inc.
