Combined Sewer Overflow No. 437 Elimination, West 3rd Street Sewer Separation, Phase 3

Cincinnati, May 14, 2007 - The Board of County Commissioners has recently approved funding for the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) No. 437 Elimination, West 3rd Street Sewer Separation, Phase 3. Managed by the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD), construction is scheduled to begin May 14, 2007, with equipment mobilization activities and is to be completed in August 2007.

This is the third and final phase of the project which will eliminate local combined sewer overflows to the Ohio River by removing CSO No. 437, in compliance with the “Global Consent Decree”. The project will involve the relocation of one sanitary lateral, the construction of approximated 250 feet of new 8” diameter sewer in and around the Smith and Augusta Street area and the Smith Street and West Mehring Way area, and the dismantling of CSO No. 437. The awarded construction cost for this phase of the project is $150,300.

This project is part of MSD’s ongoing Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which is focused on continually updating and improving the operation of MSD’s wastewater collection and treatment systems.

Every day, the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) manages the effective collection and treatment of more than 200 million gallons of wastewater and actively maintains 3,000 miles of sanitary and combined sewers that run through the 49 municipalities and townships of Hamilton County. Owned by Hamilton County and operated by the City of Cincinnati, MSD is committed to continually maintaining and improving its wastewater collection and treatment systems for the betterment of both public and environmental health.
